Mykola Shmatko and his sculpture titled "Among Emperors"
LUHANSK, Ukraine -- A sculptor in the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk has unveiled a bronze bust of President Viktor Yanukovych titled "Among Emperors ," RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.
Mykola Shmatko told journalists at the presentation on August 3 that he decided on the title because he sees Yanukovych as one in a series of personalities that includes Roman Emperor Caligula and Alexander the Great.

В начале декабря известный в Луганске и далеко за его пределами скульптор Николай Шматько снова побывал в Италии, во Флоренции. Он принял участие в 7-й выставке современного искусства Florence Biennale, которая прошла 5-13 декабря в выставочном комплексе Fortezza da Basso в рамках программы ООН «Диалог цивилизаций». В ней участвовали 840 художников и скульпторов из 76 стран мира. Мастер, ранее участвовавший и в 6-й Florence Biennale (тогда его творческие успехи удостоились награды выставки - ордена Лоренцо Великолепный ), привез массу новых впечатлений, которыми он поделился с «ОстроВ». Поездка придала ему творческих сил и энергии, и теперь скульптор с еще большим вдохновением работает над завершением своего главного проекта – >>> Явление Христа апостолам >>>

Nicolai Shmatko has presented his new sculpture "Ukrainian Aurora" and a new sculpture group "Christ's Appearance to the Apostles". It has taken 15 years for him to create the project with the Twelve Apostles. In his sculptures Nicolai Shmatko decided to deviate from the Bible apostles known to us. "In this sculpture there are our contemporaries, people who live near us. Only Jesus Christ is an imaginary person as nobody can pretend to be like him. We can also see Peter, his favourite disciple, doubting Thomas and Judas. Among the known Bible persons I have embodied myself and my sons"- Nicolai Shmatko retells.

The other sculpture of the Nicolai Shmatko "Ukrainian Aurora" has taken him half a year. He retells about it, "Aurora is a morning star which lights up the road of travelers and wayfarers. I decided to accent attention on this and tried to find a woman who can personify national pathos but I could not for a long time. And finally I found national Ukrainian colouring in Julia Timoshenko, Prime Minister of Ukraine".

i'm looking for someone to draw out a pic for me. a number 7, w/ clouds behind it & possibly blue flames coming from the bottom of the 7. i want it for a tattoo. either on the inner part of my arm or on my back. i'm not sure yet. i've drawn it out, but i'd like to see other ideas too.......

I've been working on a website dream of mine off and on for what seems to be years now. But I've had no luck, I'm just not sure what direction I want to take it. I know that I definately want it to be a poetry & music site, but other than that i'm slacking in the ideas department.
So I ask you all this: What's your favorite kind of website? And for those of you into poetry - What would you look for in a poetry site? Also, What would you look for in a music site?

It's THIS Friday, November 11 from 5pm to 11pm. The work will only be up in the gallery for ONE WEEK. There will be music, a fashion show, spoken word, live painting, performance art, etc.

In trying to get my name as a photographer out there, I wanted to send anyone that wants one a free print. Most of these are test prints or B prints, but a lot of it is pretty experimental stuff and the "problems" with the prints won't be obvious. Anyway, if you'd like one, please email girlaobscura@gmail.com with your address and tell me whether you'd prefer one 8x 10 black & white print that I printed by hand in my darkroom or a couple smaller (mosty 4x6) color prints done by one of the local labs. I know this is a strange question....
But, does anyone know ANYONE who has a pet monkey? A chimp would be best because they're much smarter.. but any monkey will do. Or does anyone know ANYONE who has access to the zoo? Where yanno.. some strings can be pulled? :)
I have a great idea for a photoshoot.. I just need a chimp.. I know, I'm a little off.. but it'll be an AMAZING photo, trust me.
So, ANY help what so ever is GREATLY appreciated!
